Supporting Educators

Advancing educator practice requires differentiated, sustained professional support that fosters growth across all stages of an educator’s career. In 51·çÁ÷ State, this includes systems and structures, such as the teacher performance assessment (TPA) as a culminating demonstration of classroom readiness during preparation, the development of district Professional Learning Plans, and the educator evaluation process under Education Law §3012-e (STEPS Plan), that are designed to provide meaningful feedback, inform professional learning, and advance high-quality instruction. Through standards-aligned development, targeted learning experiences grounded in high-leverage practices, and collaborative cultures that invite inquiry and reflection, the Department supports educators in strengthening instructional effectiveness and positively impacting student learning.

  • Professional Learning Resources: A curated set of state-supported tools, models, and guidance to help districts and schools design high-quality, standards-aligned professional learning that advances educator practice and supports career-long growth.
  • Teaching and Educational Leadership Standards: The 51·çÁ÷ State Teaching Standards and Educational Leadership Standards that define expectations for professional practice and guide evaluation, feedback, professional learning, and leadership development across the state.
