Community Engagement Team

What is the role of the Community Engagement Team (CET)?

The Community Engagement Team (CET)Ìýis a representative body designed to foster and support public engagement. The CET serves as an active thought partner for schools under Receivership by contributing to and supporting the development of recommendations for school improvement.Ìý

CET Membership

The CET must be comprised of community stakeholders with direct ties to the school including, but not limited to:

  • the school principal,
  • parents of or persons in parental relation to students attending the school,
  • teachers and other school staff assigned to the school, and
  • students attending the school.

Schools newly identified for the ReceivershipÌýsupport model must establish a CETÌýno later than 20 business days following designation.

CET membership may be modified at any time as long as the team includes the required community stakeholders at all timesÌýas specified in . If a school does not serve students in grade seven or above, it is not required that the school's CET membership include students.

CET as Thought Partner

The CET serves as a thought partner by developing recommendations for school improvement and soliciting input through public engagement.

It is required that regularly scheduled meetings be held with the CET to gather input and recommendations to inform Continuation Plan development and modification, as well as to provide the CET with updates about the status of Continuation Plan implementation and school's progress toward meeting Demonstrable Improvement Indicator targets. As such, it is required that a member of the CET, other than a school building adminstrator, sign the Continuation Plan and each subsequent quarterly report, attesting that the CET has been engaged during the progressive stages of plan development, implementation, progress reporting, and decision-making.

Community Engagement Plan

Each school, in coordination with the district, must develop a community engagement plan to as part of its Continuation Plan. The school will also be required to provide a quarterly update on the implementation of this plan as demonstarted through active engagement with the CET.Ìý

Components of the Communinity Engagement Plan should include:

  • TheÌýprocess by which stakeholders were consulted in the development of the community engagement plan.
  • TheÌýprocess by whichÌýmembers of the CET will be identified and selected. (Administrative, teacher, and parent representative members of the CET must be selected through the process as established in .)
  • The manner and extent of the expected involvement of all parties.
  • The means by which the community engagement team shall conduct meetings and formulate recommendations.
  • The means by which the community engagement team shall solicit public input.
  • The means by which the community engagement team shall make its recommendations and will be provided with the information necessary to assess the implementation of the Continuation Plan.
  • The manner in which the community engagement team shall coordinate its work with any school based management/shared decision making team or school building leadership team.
